Becoming a tech thought leader
Technology and IT are among the world’s fastest-changing industries, and there are countless publications out there that rely on expert insights. Whether you specialise in cloud migration, DevOps or AI, you can be sure there’s an outlet that can help increase your brand awareness and position you as a thought leader. So, what tech outlets should businesses target? Here Martin Deakin Chart.PR, account manager at technical PR agency Stone Junction, shares his top ten.
Wired
Taking a broader look at the impact of technology on our world, Wired covers all the latest in technology, science and even politics. With 60 million monthly readers across its channels ranging from C-suite executives to tech enthusiasts, coverage in this magazine would place you in good company alongside Apple, Amazon and Microsoft.
MIT Technology Review
I recently subscribed to MIT Technology Review after picking up a copy at an airport while waiting for my plane — and I’m glad I did! Like Wired, any coverage in this publication is lucrative and can elevate your brand by bringing you to the forefront of conversations around emerging technologies. Also, coverage isn’t limited to the magazine’s print and digital issues — it enjoys 1.3 million followers on LinkedIn, 1.1 million on Instagram and 1.2 million on X.
Computer Weekly
From being the world’s first weekly IT newspaper in 1966 to a multi-platform digital publication, Computer Weekly has come a long way. Today, the outlet provides “in-depth coverage of the issues, challenges and trends facing today’s IT leaders” – more recently, this includes the Post Office Horizon scandal. Around 200,000 currently subscribe to its digital magazine, including IT decision-makers in the UK, Europe and the rest of the world.
Computing
Computing describes itself as the “leading source of business-critical information and data journalism for IT leaders” — and you can see why. The publisher’s total brand reach (TBR) — the number of people exposed to its content — stands at 2 million per year. Computing is more than a magazine — the publication also regularly hosts webinars, conferences and networking events. Establishing a strong relationship with the outlet could give you many channels to spread your message.
IT Pro
ITPro is an online source of daily news, analysis and how-to guides for the IT industry, and its readers include CIOs, IT managers, CTOs and senior system administrators. Its topics range from cloud and security to hardware and digital transformation — and its journalists are on the lookout for interviews with IT experts. As well as offering an interview with one of its editors, try putting yourself forward for its award-winning weekly podcast.
Technology
An “established, trusted and leading voice” on all things tech, Technology Magazine covers everything from exclusive interviews with the industry’s leading executives to in-depth analyses and case studies. It also engages its readers across multiple touchpoints — including webinars, white papers and videos — to provide readers with the “ultimate” digital experience. Its focus on digital has paid off — it has over 85k monthly online views, and its email newsletter goes out to over 1.12 million subscribers.
Intelligent SME Tech
As the name suggests, Intelligent SME Tech covers technology trends in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and the publication has both a print and online presence. Its readership covers those in management, HR and finance. If you have any expert insights into cybersecurity, project management or customer experience, this could be the publication for you!
Business Cloud
Business Cloud “delivers insight into how technology can drive business growth” — and its content reaches founders and decision-makers across the UK’s tech community. It invites experts to provide insights on topics spanning AI, FinTech, cybersecurity and even HealthTech — so don’t worry about your knowledge being too niche for its readers.
I4.0 Today
These days, it’s hard to talk about tech without mentioning Industry 4.0. Although I4.0 Today largely covers electronics, it also covers different tech and IT trends, including big data, digital transformation and cybersecurity. It publishes a quarterly print magazine and regularly posts insightful content on its website aimed at CEOs, VPs and tech leaders and directors.
Developer Tech News
If you’re a software engineering firm, Develop Tech News could help your expertise find the perfect audience. This online publication regularly shares industry insights on user experience (UX), programming languages, DevOps, development tools and other tech topics. It also hosts a sponsored webinar series where contributors can provide in-depth analyses of various software-related subjects. The publication has a strong social following, with 1.8 million group members on LinkedIn alone — helping boost its content further.
